We are pleased to announce the opening of the 2013 Smart School Technology Program.
SB 284 of the 2013 Utah Legislative Session continues the Smart School Technology program to develop and implement a whole-school technology deployment in public schools. The overall purpose of this program is to develop and implement tools that improve the learning process for students. The technology-based tools should support the ability of the teacher to deliver curriculum materials (that are aligned with the core curriculum standards) in a more effective manner that results in increased student achievement. allocated $2,400,000 for this program.
SB 284 requires the Board of Business and Economic Development to select, through a request for proposals process, a single technology provider with integrated whole-school technology deployment experience to develop and implement a whole-school one-to-one technology deployment plan for public schools. It also requires the State Board of Education to create an application process for schools interested in participating in this program and to make rules requiring schools to provide matching funds to participate in the Smart School Technology Program.
New this year is the requirement for participating schools to provide matching funds in order to be eligible to participate in this program. Based on last year's program each school will need to provide between $800 and $900 per student and teacher. This amount could be higher or lower depending on the responses to the RFP. The matching funds will need to be paid during the 2013-2014 school year.
Schools that are interested must complete the application by Friday, May 24, 2013.
